Seattle's annual Seafair celebration offers a multitude of opportunities for the photographer looking for color and activity. It is a vehicle for numerous local and regional parades and festivals, a coronation of its queen and her court, a Milk Carton Derby, 10k Run and culminating in the Unlimited Hydroplane Races on Lake Washington
Annually, a part
of the Seafair celebration is the Maritime Festival, held on Elliott Bay.
The festivities include various displays on shore and the Tugboat Races on the
bay. All the towing companies on the Sound are invited and send multiple
vessels to participate in their appropriate classes.
Every year in May, Seattle's yachting community turns out at the Montlake Cut for the annual Opening Day of Yachting Season, hosted by Seattle Yacht club and participated in by hundreds of yachts, some of which are elaborately decorated in the theme of the year. These festivities are preceded by international rowing competition, the Windermere Cup. Crews from all over the world compete.

Just
north of downtown Seattle, at the West end of
the Lake Washington Ship Canal is one
of Seattle's premier marinas, Shilshole
Bay Marina. Here, hundreds of slips are available for moorage of
pleasure
craft. On any breezy day, the bay just outside the marina is alive with
sailboats, providing excellent material for action shots. Corinthian Yacht
Club, one of Seattle's oldest and largest clubs hosts races on Shilshole bay
virtually year around.
Additionally, Elliott Bay Marina at the foot of Magnolia Bluff hosts a number of slips. Elliott Bay is shown at the right during the annual Pulley Point Race
