Welcome to the Borrowed Light Images Web site. On these pages we will display some of our extensive collection of digital images. Most are recently captured by one of our photographers on state-of-the-art digital cameras. Some of our older images date back as far as 40 years and were scanned on our Hewlett-Packard s-20 scanners.

Every image shown is available for sale by clicking on the "Add Item" button at the bottom of the page on which the image is individually displayed. If you are looking for a particular subject and don't see an image that suits your needs, let us know by email and we'll see what we can do to accommodate you. We have zillions more images, which we just don't have room to display.

When we prepare an image for shipment, we will make every effort to include an 8x10 contact sheet of other images that share some or all of the keywords as the image(s) selected).

We hope you enjoy your visit and will return often.

Why Borrowed Light Images?

We believe that every photograph, like the moon alluded to in the 18th century hymn above, is the result of borrowing light to illuminate our subjects. We consider ourselves honored to have been in the right place at the right time to capture the image before the light is returned to its rightful owner.

His interest in photography is an outgrowth of his interest in creating marine designs of beauty and capturing that beauty after the vessels he creates have been launched.

This photographic interest is furthered by his need for high-impact graphics in his web development efforts.

Jason at a recent hot air balloon shoot

Jason comes recently to photography, but when he takes an interest in something, there's no stopping him as you will see when you view his images in the Sailing, Hot Air Balloon, and Motocross galleries.

He went quickly from basic 35mm film equipment to a Canon EOS-10d digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR). He now shoots as many action venues as his day job allows.

The Equipment

Nikon D100 Digital SLR Camera

This is Cliff's personal choice as his primary camera. It offers high capacity capture (3 frames/second - 7 Frame buffer) at high resolution (6.1Mp).

This choice enables his images to be published at 8X10X300dpi with crystal clear finish. Larger outputs are available on special request at slightly less exquisite 256dpi, which is still quite acceptable.

Since adopting the digital SLR format, Cliff has not taken a single film picture, preferring to can thousands of shots without spending a single consumable cent.

Canon EOS-10d Digital SLR Camera

Jason's personal choice is the Canon. Like the Nikon above, the Canon offers high capacity capture (3 frames/second - 9 frame buffer) at high resolution (6.3Mp). You will note the slightly higher specs in each category. This is basically because Jason had to outdo his Dad when it came to specs. Who says we aren't competitive.

In the final analysis, either camera is perfectly suited to the type of photography we undertake at Borrowed Light Images. We shoot for fun and for the satisfaction of getting fleeting beauty "on the card" before it's gone.
